EMBRACING THE UNEXPECTED – Clown 2 – EMERSON COLLEGE, UK

with Carol Thompson and Ali Stockford

This course offers further practice of clowning with the focus on structure and relationship (such as the Elder-Younger structure). At this level we practice responsiveness to and awareness of your partner on stage, your audience and the images,  stories and characters that emerge during improvisation. The teaching method will emphasize finding greater insights into the techniques of improvisation and performance, providing enough challenges and inspiration to take your understanding of this work forward.

Level 2 is a pre-requisite for Clown 3, Towards Performance and Social Clowning.

Facilitators:

 Carol Thompson

Carol’s training was in English and Theatre Arts at the University of Toronto and the Drama Studio in London. She worked in Education and Theatre for some years and then qualified to be a Psychosynthesis therapeutic counsellor and an NLP Master Practitioner. Carol took these skills into business in the private and public sectors as a Communication Skills Trainer. In recent years she has become involved in the positive psychology movement as a Laughter Leader and now a Clowning Facilitator, combining her interests in education, theatre and psychology.
Alison Stockford

Ali has been facilitating Nose to Nose workshops for over five years for creatives and people from all walks of life who are interested in exploring this extraordinary character and archetype. She sees clown improvisation as the perfect grounding for all creative work, developing our potential for full self-expression and the bigger picture of trusting ourselves and life.  A member of the Nose to Nose Team, UK, Clown facilitation has also taken her into training work for the Giggle Doctors, Theodora Foundation, UK and for Lis’n Tell Speech and Language practitioners UK.   Previous work includes directing collaborative devising for performance with young people and adults with learning disabilities and as a performer and tap dancer in street theatre, school tours and cabaret with companies Inside Out Theatre Company and Les Amuse-Gueules, France.
