EXPLORING THE POETRY OF ACTION – Callan – IRELAND
Monday June 26, 2017 - Friday June 30, 2017
Starts 09:30 on first day - Finishes 14:30 on last day
Clown level 1 & 2
with Vivian Gladwell and Piotr Bujak
This course offers an exploration of clowning with a focus on voice, silence, musicality, rhythm, movement and space. Beginners and confirmed clowns are welcomed. The purpose of the week is to look at ways in which we can free ourselves from speaking too much when we are on stage. For this we need to trust our voices and our physical bodies to guide us.
This course will offer both an introduction to clowning (with a specific focus on not speaking) AND will also be useful for experienced clowns who wish to deepen their understanding of clowning.
The teaching method will emphasise finding greater insights into the techniques of improvisation and performance, providing enough challenges and inspiration to take your understanding of this work forward.
Vivian is the founder and director of Nose to Nose and has given hundreds of workshops around the world. He lives both in the UK and France where he started clowning in 1978. He speaks French and English fluently.
Vivian began teaching in 1988 as part of the Lifeways Festival at Emerson College – UK. He trained as a facilitator with the Bataclown in 1990 and joined their team in 1991 also working as a modern day Court Jester (Clownanalyst).
He created Nose to Nose UK in 1990, Nose to Nose of North America in 2006 and Fool View, the Social Clowning group and has trained facilitators in the UK, the USA, Germany and Italy – view history.
He continues his role as ambassador for the work by researching the applications of clowning in the context of teacher training, medicine, conflict management, ecology and intercultural work in many countries (South Africa, USA, Senegal, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Italy, Germany, Norway…)
He holds clowning as a social playground for exploring our humanity.
Piotr Bujak (Poland) fell in love with clowning in the Nose to Nose tradition during his studies at Emerson College and Artemis School of Speech & Drama Sussex UK. After taking part in several clowning workshops he enrolled in the facilitators training and started to organise clowning workshops in different parts of the world. At present, he facilitates clowning workshops for Camphill Communities of Ireland and The KCAT Art & Study Centre in Callan and has a group of clowns in Holland.
