PLAYING WITH FIRE – Exploring conflict through NVC and Clowning – a 4-day residential course – Emerson, UK
Tuesday May 14, 2019 - Friday May 17, 2019
Starts 18:15 on first day - Finishes 14:30 on last day

flyingwith Vivian Gladwell and Arnaud Durand

An experiential workshop, giving participants the chance to alternate between action and reflection. All the exercises are designed so that no previous experience of either clowning or peacemaking is necessary.

By embracing our fears around vulnerability, loss of control and not knowing, the clown invites us to remain fully engaged, curious and interested even in times of greatest stress without losing the connectedness to our own inner voice and emotions.

This practice counteracts our tendency in conflict to become smaller versions of ourselves and to get stuck in one-sidedness. Dealing successfully with conflict is about the courage and integrity to show our humanity.

This course continues our research on the clown as social activist and provides an important grounding for looking at the social role of the Court Jester and the Fool in our society – see Social Clowning course.

Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is an approach to an open-hearted living, developed by Marshall Rosenberge in the 1960s. It is based on the assumption that any kind of violence in communication, whether verbal or physical, should be altered by compassion. This approach allows us to recognize the common ground that we share – the basic human needs. From there, we are able to take further actions to a more authentic and understanding way of communication and connection.
