PLAY AND TEACHING WHO WE ARE
Monday 11 - Friday 15 May 2009
Afternoons: 11.45 -17.00
We teach not what we know but who we are.
Play defines our humanity and this course offers a journey of rediscovery
into this fundamental need.
The quote below also applies to students training to teach. It explains
the links between our teaching and who we are.
”The clowning and improvisation courses which Vivian
Gladwell has conducted in the context of in-service teacher development
for Steiner School language teachers have had significant effects
on their personal and professional development. Such development
may have included an enhanced openness and attentiveness, a heightened
sense of empathy, a higher degree of presence and increased improvisational
skills. At the same time, these courses have also played an important
role in helping teachers to learn to address their own uncertainties,
anxieties and mistakes in a more constructive and creative manner.”
(P. Lutzker, 2007: The Art of Foreign Language Teaching)
Teaching is about how we hear our students and not just how we
can be heard. In clowning we learn to trust and welcome the unexpected
as a gift.
Facilitator: Vivian Gladwell
